Price Performance
Growth Potential
- Quality assets with superior free cash flow breakeven price relative to peers. Its global scale is also a competitive advantage.
- Increasing LNG demand (which is expected to increase by ~60% by 2040), with WPL well positioned to fulfill this. Natural gas and LNG are flexible energy sources that support base load power, industrial use, and grid reliability.
- Scarborough will start up broadly on schedule and without material cost overrun. WDS’ legacy asset base can maintain operational reliability while management executes major projects concurrently.
- LNG contract coverage and portfolio quality will cushion downside if spot markets weaken
- Very strong balance sheet with gearing of 18% as of FY25.
- Strong free cash flow generation. Sell-down of assets and recycling of assets could add to shareholder returns.
- Attractive dividend yield.
Key Risks
- Project execution risk – with Scarborough late-stage commissioning can still produce delays and Trion & Louisiana LNG extend the period in which WDS must allocate capital with discipline.
- Free cash flow disappoints, valuation de-rates, and investors question whether the capex cycle is earning adequate returns
- Lower oil/LNG prices - despite contracts, WDS remains exposed to global LNG and oil price volatility. A weaker macro environment, softer Asian gas demand, or additional global LNG supply could compress realised margins just as new projects enter service.
- Supply and demand imbalance in global oil/gas markets.
- Value destructive acquisition(s).
